The end of winter signals the gentle transition to outward life. In particular the spring equinox, when day and night are nearly equal, is a time of rebirth and balance.
This Kundalini yoga meditation invites spiritual, mental, and physical balance.
- Spiritual balance aligns your inner self with your outer life, integrating introspection and awareness with your daily tasks of living. It involves aligning to your higher purpose, even while engaged in seemingly mundane tasks (because truly anything can become your sadhana, or daily spiritual practice).
- Mental balance refers to an equanimous mind — maintaining a sense of peace and stability that isn’t disturbed by the outside world or distracted by internal sensations.
- Physical balance is a resilient stability of the body. It’s the ability to move like the trees: steady and flexible, able to bend and not break while remaining strong. Balance also relies on having a steady breath that can quicken and deepen as needed, and easily return back to calm.
Specifically in this meditation, the hand position (mudra) acts to bring the two brain hemispheres into balance. The breathwork pattern stimulates meridian points in the throat, which affect the parasympathetic nervous system and support a sense of calm and reduction of stress. And breathing in strokes affects the pituitary gland, the master gland that regulates essential body functions, including stress management.
Concentrating on the breath and letting all else fall away helps you develop mental and physical balance. Through regular practice, you can return to the deep centering experience developed in this meditation at any point you want or need throughout your day.
Pair this meditation after this season’s Sadhana practice or try it on its own. If you get stuck as you move beyond anything that previously held you back, consider hypnotherapy to help you more quickly move through any blockages.
